Convert Fnu (erg/s/Hz, a specific luminosity) to an ST magnitude.

Fnu -> Flambda -> ST; the standard-distance conversion happens once, inside the Flambda -> ST step (see its own comment) – the intermediate Fnu -> Flambda step is a pure change of variable that never touches it.
